Advantages And Disadvantages Of Turbines

Under the condition of not changing the engine displacement, a turbocharged engine can significantly increase the power and torque of the engine. Generally speaking, the power and torque of an engine equipped with a turbocharger should increase by 20% to 30%. On the other hand, turbocharging can improve the fuel economy of a car.
However, turbocharging also has its drawbacks, which are the turbine hysteresis effect, as the turbine needs to wait for the engine to reach a certain speed (approximately 2000rpm) before starting and working. Secondly, the noise increase and exhaust heat dissipation problems caused by turbocharging are also important. Another issue is that the components inside turbocharged engines are often exposed to high temperatures and high impact environments. Therefore, such engines have special requirements for oil, such as good wear resistance, high temperature resistance, fast establishment of lubricating oil film, high oil film strength, good stability, and low viscosity.
