Investment Casting Turbine Blade

Investment casting turbine blade is a common manufacturing method used to produce turbine blades with complex geometries and high temperature performance requirements. The method works by melting a metal alloy and injecting it into a prefabricated ceramic pattern to form the final blade shape.

The following is the manufacturing process of investment casting superalloy turbine blades:

Mold preparation: Use high temperature resistant ceramic materials to make the mold of the blade. This mold is usually made of refractory material and has the exact geometry of the blade and internal cooling channel structure.

Material selection: Choose alloy materials suitable for high temperature applications, such as nickel-based alloys (such as IN718, IN738LC) or cobalt-based alloys (such as FSX-414). These materials have excellent high temperature strength and corrosion resistance.

Alloy Melting: Melting the selected high-temperature alloy material, usually using an electric arc furnace or a vacuum melting furnace.

Injection mold: Inject the molten alloy into a pre-prepared ceramic mold. The injection process requires precise control of temperature, pressure and injection speed to ensure that the entire mold is filled and the details and internal structure of the blade are formed.

Solidification and Cooling: Wait for the molten alloy to solidify and cool in the mold for it to achieve sufficient strength.

Mold removal: Once the alloy has solidified and cooled, the mold can be broken or dissolved to remove the blade from the mould.

Trimming and post-processing: As-cast blades are trimmed to remove any excess material or defects and carry out necessary heat treatment, surface treatment and inspection to meet design requirements.
